National Firefighter Ability (NFA) test scores, sample sizes, and standard deviations by ethnicity
Dear London Fire Commissioner (London Fire Brigade),
I would like the National Firefighter Ability (NFA) test scores, sample sizes, and standard deviations by ethnicity for the most recent year for which you have data.
Preferably with subtest scores for:
--working with numbers
--understanding information
--Problem solving
I am interested in disparate impact research.
I previously contacted the Home Office, and they said to contact each fire
and rescue authority individually.
Yours faithfully,
John Fuerst

Dear London Fire Commissioner (London Fire Brigade),
Could you please clarify if the London Fire Brigade uses verbal, numerical, written, or mechanical reasoning tests during the Assessment center process. The site says:
--Information Analysis Exercise which is a written exercise linked to the role play
--Verification test where you will be expected to sit the second online tests in exam conditions
https://www.london-fire.gov.uk/careers/b...
And also if you have scores for such tests by ethnic group? Thank you for the help.
Yours faithfully,
John Fuerst

Dear John
Thank you for your email received on 04 December 2019 in relation to verbal, numerical, written, or mechanical reasoning tests completed during the firefighter assessment centre process.
In response, our People Services department have confirmed that 564 candidates attended the assessment centre for the 2019 firefighter recruitment campaign. If the candidates are unable to provide GCSE A-C (or equivalent) in the subjects of English (language) and Maths, they will undertake a verbal and/or numerical reasoning test. For the 2019 firefighter recruitment campaign, 337 candidates were required to complete a numerical and/or verbal reasoning test.
Please find the breakdown by ethnicity below:
148 BAME candidates took a numerical and/or verbal reasoning test with 83 being successful at that stage (56.08% pass rate);
189 non-BAME candidates took a numerical and/or verbal reasoning test with 137 being successful at that stage (72.49% pass rate).
I hope you find this information of use. Should you have any further questions please do let me know.
