Name required for FOI Requestds

Dear Information Commissioner's Office,

We will be grateful if you would confirm that in order to comply with a FOI request, we need to provide our Name and a Surname.

We have been advised by a Borough Council, that they will not answer our FOI request, unless we provide our Name given to us by our parents, and also a Surname.

Please note what the Borough Council has stated; and confirm that this is correct please:

'The Information Commissioner’s Office guidance on Section 8 of the Freedom of Information Act, explains the requirements of an individual to provide their real name and sufficient information to identify them. As such you have not provided us with sufficient information and your request is therefore invalid.

Paragraph 25 of the guidance explains that a first name or surname provided in insolation is not sufficient to satisfy the requirements of section 8.

On this basis, we will not process your request until you provide us with the details we have requested.'
