Dear Dr Malik
Thank you for your enquiry. HESA is not subject to the Freedom of
Information Act 2000 as it is an independent company, owned by its
members, and not deemed to be a public authority. However we will always
try to answer any enquiries.
Data on the total number of students enrolled, and the number of first
year students, in 2010/11 to 2014/15 is available via this Statistical
First Release published on 14 January 2016:
https://www.hesa.ac.uk/sfr224. Data for 2015/16 will be available from
January 2017. HESA does not collect data from Further Education providers.
Data on the religion or belief of students was collected for the first
time in 2012/13. This data field is optional for institutions to collect,
and of course optional for students to complete. This data field generally
has a very high level of unknown values.
Given the above caveat, data on religion or belief can be provided via our
Bespoke Data Service for the years 2012/13 to 2014/15 subject to any data
protection constraints. I have copied this reply to my colleague who dealt
with your earlier data request so that they can send you a quote for the
work of extracting the data you have requested.
