Dear Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust's handling of my FOI request 'MSSA and MRSA cases'. A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at this address: https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/m...

I am asking the Trust to reconsider the application of the s41 exemption to my request for the infection details to be broken down by ward. It should be possible for the trust to release statistical information of this sort without the risk of identifying any individual. Should the trust continue to assert that the exemption applies, I would ask the trust consider whether they would have a public interest defence to any potential legal action brought against them. The release of the information would help increase public understanding of the effectiveness of infection control procedures within specific areas of the hospital.

In line with your section 16 duty to advise and assist, I am also asking you to advise whether I could modify my request in such a way that the Trust would no longer feel it necessary to apply the s41 exemption. This may involve, for example, taking MRSA and MSSA infections together, creating the breakdown by infection type only, rather than the source of the infection, or by combining the data for the entire time period that I am interested in.

Yours faithfully,

Helen Cross
