Dear Mr Park,

We have completed the compilation of information in response to your
request.

We can confirm that we do hold the information of the description
specified in your request and where this information is not exempt, it is
provided below.

Could you please provide for the following masters courses:

* MSc Geoscience

* Msc Geophysical Hazards

* Msc Climate Change; and

* Msc Environmental Modelling

Q1) What the total number of applicants, offers, and acceptances were for
each respective master's program for the academic years 2015-16 and
2016-17.

Q2) The number of full time and part time students for each respective
master's program for the academic years 2015-16 and 2016-17.

A1-2) Please see attached PDF document.

As you can see, exact counts of four or less have been withheld because
these are personal data of third parties or, if linked with other personal
identifiers in the public domain, would be likely to become personal
data. This information has been withheld under section 40(2) of the FOIA
by virtue of s40 (3)(a)(i).

Section 40(2) of the FOIA allows a public authority to withhold
information under the FOIA where (i) the requested information is personal
data relating to someone other than the requester and (ii) its disclosure
would breach any of the Data Protection principles. In this case we
believe that the requested information could relate to and identify
individuals and therefore would be personal data. The disclosure of these
personal data would not be within the reasonable expectations of the
individuals concerned and it would be unfair to do so; this therefore
breaches the first data protection principle.

Q3) The past exam papers taken by the students on the above master's
courses for each course for the academic years 2015-16 and 2016-17.

A3) The information for the MSc Geoscience and MSc Geophysical Hazards
programmes is exempt from disclosure due to Section 21, which states:

“(1)Information which is reasonably accessible to the applicant otherwise
than under section 1 is exempt information.”

Please note that for the above exam papers, you need to click on the link
provided for each programme and then in the “Enter search term(s)” box,
type either GEOLGG* or GEOLGH* depending on which programme you want.

Please note that students taking MSc Climate Change do not have any
compulsory exams but, can take GEOGG124 as an optional module. Students on
MSc Environmental Modelling take GEOGG121 as a compulsory module. The exam
papers are attached.

Dear Mr Park,

Further to your request for clarification, none of the other optional modules for MSc Climate Change have exams. I have been informed that students often take a module that is not on the optional modules list so these may have exams.

With regards to your point about the exam papers being sent as PDFs, we are currently looking into this and will get back to you as soon as possible.
