MP job description

House of Commons Commission did not have the information requested.

Dear House of Commons Commission,

I would be interested to see the paperwork which would constitute an MP's job description. All employees have a job description and they are held accountable by the terms agreed.

In order to hold an MP to account one must first know what is reasonably required.

I look forward to your response.

Yours faithfully,

D. Reynolds.

FOICOMMONS, House of Commons Commission

Dear FOICOMMONS,

Thank you for your swift response to my FOI request. As I thought, our MPs are largely unaccountable as we have no stated requirements against which we can measure their performance.

One of the links you sent was unavailable and the other contained a schoolboy summary of 'What MP's do' which should have come complete with colouring book and crayons as it was so basic in its description.

I noticed that this summary included the statement that MPs 'often hold a surgery' but I have recently discovered that they are under no obligation to do so.

Televised debates often show the House of Commons to be sparsely populated, even for discussions on significant issues. It all begs the question, just what is it that our MPs do? Whatever they like, would appear to be the answer.

Yours sincerely,

D. Reynolds.

Dear Ms Reynolds,

I am sorry that you were unable to access the enclosed link. For your convenience I have attached this leaflet, 'You and Your MP', to this reply.

This includes details of how to contact your local MP, to whom you may wish to express your views or seek further information.

Kind regards,

IRIS Officer

Dear FOICOMMONS,

There was no attachment, but don't bother with it. I have already contacted my MP and found him to be less than helpful.

Yours sincerely,

D. Reynolds
