Freedom of Information,

Dear Mr Lowndes

FOI Request Reference: 7393/17

Thank you for your request for information, received 16/06/2017.

REQUEST

Please provide a count of successful (regardless of recovery /
non-recovery) motorbike thefts aggregated for all councils in the West
Midlands over the past 3 years grouped by security device(s) in use at the
time of theft:

- None

- Motorbike cover

- Brake caliper lock(s)

- Security chain(s)

- Alarm

- Other

- Several of the above

I am writing to ask you to clarify your request. This is because we need
further details from you in order to identify and locate the information.

Therefore I should be grateful if you would confirm what words exactly do
you want us to search for in relation to security devices?  The only way
to search for these security devices is to do a free text filter from the
MO notes obtained from the list of stolen vehicles.

We record theft of motor vehicles so need to search in free text in the
classification for ‘motorcycle’ ‘bike’ etc.

Please contact me if you need assistance with this.

To enable us to proceed with your request I would be grateful if you could
provide the clarification outlined above. After receiving your reply, your
request will be considered and you will receive a response within the
statutory timescale of 20 working days, as defined by the Act, subject to
the application of any statutory exemptions. If you choose not to respond
then your request will remain unanswered.

publication scheme and disclosure log

Hi,

Please see below for a list of phrases that should be attributed to each group:

Motorbike Cover: "cover"

Steering column lock: "steering lock", "ignition lock"

Brake disc lock (in my original request I wrote 'Brake caliper lock(s)', that was a typo): "disc lock", "disc clamp", "rotor lock", "brake lock"

Security Chain: "chain"

Alarm: "alarm",

Other: "tracker", "datatag", "immobiliser"

Several of the above: any combination of one or more phrases from different categories, e.g. notes which say "cover" and "disc lock" should go under "several of the above", but notes that say "disc lock" and "rotor lock" should be represented as one entry under "brake disc lock"

None: none of the phrases above

Every effort is made to ensure that the figures presented are accurate and
