Information Rights, Companies House

Dear Mr Caughey

I refer to your email dated 24 November 2017 in which you have requested
the following:

“Please can you let me know the 5 most used classification codes used for
new Companies in the past 12 months.”

Firstly, I should explain that you cannot search by Standard Industry
Classification (SIC) codes for companies incorporated within the last 12
months as we are not informed of the SIC codes until the company files its
first annual return/Confirmation statement, which is usually 12 months
after incorporation.

For information I have inserted the following link to the condensed SIC
list:

Company information can be obtained via our DVD directory, the cost of the
DVD directory is £30. More information on this product can be found via
the following link:

[2]https://www.gov.uk/government/organisati...

You can perform the following searches on the DVD;

Company Name (any part of)

Company Number

Registered Office Address lines

Postcode

Date of incorporation (or ranges of dates)

SIC Description

Company Type

Company Status

Accounts Type

Up to 6 combinations of these options can be used in any search.

You may also be interested in the Companies House free company data
product which provides a snapshot from the public register in CSV format,
which can be accessed from the following link:

I must refuse your request for this information as under section 21 of the
Freedom of Information Act 2000, any information that is reasonably
accessible to the applicant, albeit on payment of a fee, is exempt
information under the Act.

If you are dissatisfied with the result of your request for information
you may request an internal review within two calendar months of the date
of this email. The case will be reviewed by a senior member of staff who
has had no previous involvement in this case. Please remember to quote the
reference number above in any future communications.

If you are then not content with the outcome of the internal review, you
have the right to apply directly to the Information Commissioner for a
decision.  Further information can be found at [4]www.ico.org.uk

Yours sincerely
