Most competitive colleges at Durham
Dear Durham University,
Please, could you provide statistics about the most competitive colleges at Durham, in terms of applicants per place, both in general terms and specifically for the BA History course? In addition, I would be grateful if you could give statistics about the percentage of applicants who received their first choice of college, sorted by each individual college, both for the subject of BA History and in general.
Yours faithfully,
Cecelia Knight

Dear Ms Knight
Thank you for your request for information from Durham University.
Colleagues have provided the information below and attache in response to
your questions.
Please, could you provide statistics about the most competitive colleges
at Durham, in terms of applicants per place, both in general terms and
specifically for the BA History course? In addition, I would be grateful

Please refer to the attached document, noting:
All courses at Durham University are taught centrally in academic
departments. Academic teaching is not located in our colleges. Our
colleges are where our students live, socialise and get involved in
numerous extra-curricular activities. The decision to admit a student to
the University is made by the academic department and any preference that
an applicant may state in their application for a particular college has
no bearing on the outcome of that decision to make an offer. Only once an
applicant has an offer (and after it has been sent to UCAS) are they
eligible to be considered for one of our colleges. Colleges at Durham
University will accept students who hold offers from all academic
departments. To find out more about how applicants are allocated to
colleges, please see our website at
[1]www.dur.ac.uk/colleges.se.office/allocations/ .
If you are dissatisfied with the University’s response to your freedom of
information request, you can ask us to internally review our handling of
your request, including the application of any exemptions applied. To do
this, please email [2][Durham University request email] or write to:

the date your request for internal review is received.
