1. What is the relationship between the council and Mosaic?

Mosaic is an independent third sector partner of council that supports families of Black & mixed parentage families.

2. Please give me all details of Mosaic's three year strategic grant (eg size of grant and agreed objectives) and any other monies that have passed from Council to Mosaic.

From a grants perspective BHCC currently supports the organisation with Three Year Strategic Grant worth £22K pa 2013-16.

3. Please confirm the names and job descriptions of Mosaic's officers/volunteers/workers, confirming also that all school workers were/are CRB checked.

We do not hold information on third sector volunteers or employees.

4. Please confirm if Abigail Sinclair is still a Mosaic worker?

We do not hold information on third sector volunteers or employees.

5. Please give me all written reports submitted by Mosaic to the Council including minutes of any report-back meetings.

We have one report which has been redacted to remove reference which might have enabled identification of a young person.

6. Please provide a statement explaining your understanding from Mosaic of the references in The Argus (Racism Probe at Varndean School 8th July 2012) attributed to Abigail Sinclair stating that "there appears to be a culture of racial abuse [at Varndean]" and referring to the fact that she was in contact with the parents of six cgildren at the school who had complained of repeated verbal and physical racial abuse.

The following statement was made in September 2012:

A council spokesperson said: “Varndean School has a successful history of leading and developing practice related to equality issues. This includes work on identifying and recording racist and religiously motivated incidents and dealing with these issues.
“A invitation was made by the school for the LEA to visit it. This is part of the normal dialogue that occurs within the partnership of schools and supporting agencies in the city.

“The school continues to work with the authority, community and voluntary sector groups to build on the good practice in place. The school is committed to building on its robust systems and processes for preventing and responding to racist and religiously motivated incidents.” ENDS

7. Please confirm if the council were ever informed - either by Mosaic or by other means - of the cases mentioned, according to The Argus, by Ms Sinclair.

We have no record of the cases referred to in The Argus.
