Mortality statistics: out-of-work benefit claimants

We're waiting for Ian Wolf to read recent responses and update the status.

Dear Department for Work and Pensions,

Please email me details of your evaluation and development plans for
your mortality statistics, since October 2015, in respect on out-of-work benefit claimants, how users will be involved in this process and timescales for this work. Together with details of any research you are doing into the ull range of outcomes for individuals who have undergone a Work Capability Assessment.

Yours faithfully,
Ian

"I will ask DWP to publish more detail about their evaluation and development plans for these
experimental statistics, including how users will be involved in this process and the
timescales for this work, in line with the Code To improve the quality and value of these statistics, I will also ask DWP to consider publishing, alongside its official statistics, more
detailed research into the full range of outcomes for individuals who have undergone a Work
Capability Assessment. Publishing such research would be a helpful next step in the development of these statistics. "

DWP figures on benefit claimant deaths: what they do and don't tell us
https://fullfact.org/economy/dwp-figures...

Reporting on "fit for work" deaths isn't fit for purpose

Claim
Thousands of people died within weeks of being found fit for work.

Conclusion
The figures show people who died within weeks of their claim ending, not being found fit for work. Many claims have ended because the claimant died
