Dear Lauren,

I am writing in respect of your recent enquiry for information held by the
Council under the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act. You asked
the following:

o I would like to know how much has been spent on flood defences over
the last 5 years.
o In addition, I would also like to find out how much the council has
spent repairing flood damages.

I can confirm the following:

·         The council has not spent any money on flood defences

·         The Council does not split the costs of storm damage between
damage by water (flood damage) and damage from wind. So the total costs of
repairing storm damage to SLDC property over the last 5 financial years is
£1,449,914. The Council received contributions of £217,204 towards these
costs from insurance or tenants of properties. This gives a net cost of
storm damage of £1,232,710. These costs are all related to storm Desmond
and other storms of winter 2015/16.
