Dear Ms Carter,

Re: FOI F07331

Thank you for your Freedom of Information request.

Please find below the response to your recent request. The information has
been provided by our Head of Housing, Health and Environment.

Your request:

“I would like to know how much has been spent on flood defences over the
last 5 years. In addition, I would also like to find out how much the
council has spent repairing flood damages”.

I can confirm that the Council is not responsible for the provision of
flood defences. However, the Council was allocated funded to undertake a
property flood protection scheme in Lamberhurst in 2011 and 2013. It was
carried out in two phases in partnership with the Environment Agency who
grant funding the project. The overall cost of these two phases was in the
region of £200,000.

The Council only holds specific information about the cost of flood damage
to its properties for the winter of 2013/14 as set out below:

Flooding Costs 2013/14 2014/15
  Responsive Repairs Buildings 2,526.36 0.00
Ground Maintenance Non Contract 0.00 3,940.00
  Horticulture 7,555.23 15,900.51
  Ground Maintenance Infrastructure 180.00 0.00
  Ground Maintenance Culvert & Ditches 5,345.06 0.00
Ground Maintenance Flood Precaution 2,283.28 0.00
  External Contract Payments 2,223.93 0.00
Total 20,113.86 19,840.51

I hope this information is helpful and if there is anything further I can
help with please contact me on 01892 554077 or via email to
[1][email address
