Money made from Student Accommodation over the last few years.

Daisy Speed made this Freedom of Information request to University of Liverpool This request has been closed to new correspondence. Contact us if you think it should be reopened.

The request was partially successful.

Dear University of Liverpool,

I am requesting a freedom of information request regarding the increase of student accommodation throughout the city.

I would like to know:

1) How much money the university has made from student accommodation over the past five years, ideally with an annual breakdown of how much has been made each year, if possible.

2) What the demographic tends to be for the accommodations.

3) How many students are housed by your accommodation this academic year (16/17)

4)Are there any more plans for the construction of more student accommodation, and how many are you planning on having up and running by 2018?

I look forward to your response.

Yours faithfully,

Daisy Speed

Thank you for your email of 12^th December 2016 requesting information
about student accommodation.    I am pleased to provide the requested
information as set out below and attached:-

1) How much money the university has made from student accommodation over
the past five years, ideally with an annual breakdown of how much has been
made each year, if possible.

Although the University holds the information you requested, it will not
supply it to you because this information is exempt under Section 43
(commercial interest) of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and is
therefore being withheld.

The University believes that the requested information is exempt under
Section 43 of the FOIA on the basis that disclosure could potentially
prejudice the commercial interests of the University.  You may be aware
that due to changes to the funding environment for universities, we are
now subject to Competition Law restrictions.  As you will appreciate we
are in competition with other Universities and need to maintain our
competitive position.

2) What the demographic tends to be for the accommodations.

Please see attached

3) How many students are housed by your accommodation this academic year
(16/17)

There are a total of 4403 students living in University Accommodation for
the current academic year

4)Are there any more plans for the construction of more student
accommodation, and how many are you planning on having up and running by
2018?

There is ongoing development work at our Greenbank Student Village which
is due for completion in 2019. For September 2018, there will be 12 halls
in operation across our sites located on Campus and at Our Student
Villages. This will provide a total of approximately 5000 beds.
