Steve Smedley

Dear British Broadcasting Corporation,

I would be grateful if you would provide me with information on what measures and safeguards have been put in place by the BBC to ensure that the moderation of the Have Your Say forum by external contractor Tempero meets the BBC's obligation for fairness and impartiality.

What specific guidelines and criteria have been issued by the BBC to Tempero against which comments can be tested for acceptability?

What systems exist to monitor the performance of Tempero moderators with regard to impartiality and fairness?

How many complaints has the BBC received for the years 2007-08, 2008-09 and 2009-10 concerning moderation of the Have Your Say website?

What are the processes for dealing with such complaints?

How many such complaints were upheld?

Thank you in advance for your assistance in this matter.

Yours faithfully,

Steve Smedley
