MOD Closures in York Area

Chris Wedgwood made this Freedom of Information request to Defence Infrastructure Organisation

The request was partially successful.

Dear Defence Infrastructure Organisation,

The MOD has stated that it intends to close a number of military establishments in the City of York local authority area. It is a shame to see the army go!

My request relates to the possible civilian use of the existing buildings to provide housing for the general population once the service personnel have vacated. I would like to establish the vacant housing capacity of the existing accommodation on the sites from day 1 after the MOD cease to use them.

a)Please could you tell me how much existing accommodation is presently built on the sites which are earmarked for closure(in the York City Council area). I understand that this might be a range of types of housing so please could you give both number of beds and any more meaningful metrics such as number of dwelling (equivalent)/area sqm etc.. that you may have available.

b)Please could you tell me how much of this accommodation, if any, is at the end of it's useful life. ie accommodation that is substandard and must be demolished at the end of the MOD use so could not be used for civilian purposes thereafter.

Thanks.

Yours faithfully,

Chris Wedgwood
