Mobile Phones

The request was successful.

Dear Kent County Council,

In the year 09/10 how much was the Council's bill -
1. For calls made by staff on mobile phones provided to them by the Council
2. For purchasing mobile phones (and contracts) for the Council's staff.

Also, how many mobile phones does the Council currently finance?

Yours faithfully,

Mr N Savvides

Kent County Council

Dear Mr Savvides

Thank you for your request for information.

Kent County Council is a very large local authority; our employee
headcount is over 45,000, approximately 30,000 working in schools and
15,000 directly for KCC. KCC is split into five directorates, each with
their own devolved powers and financial management so consequently, very
few records are centralised making our ability to answer authority-wide
requests for information like this one very difficult within the
appropriate limit.

However, we have been able to extrapolate the following information from
our records.

For the last financial year, KCC's bill for calls made by staff and
members on mobile phones provided to them by the Council was
£670,285.14. This relates to authorised business calls The bill for
purchasing mobiles phones and contracts was £3,565.27. KCC finances 6800
mobile phones.

If you are unhappy with this response, and believe KCC has not complied
with legislation, please ask for a review by following our complaints
process; details can be found at this link
[1]http://www.kent.gov.uk/your_council/have...
on our website. Please quote reference FOI/10/0843.

If you still remain dissatisfied following an internal review, you can
appeal to the Information Commissioner, who oversees compliance with the
Freedom of Information Act 2000. Details of what you need to do, should
you wish to pursue this course of action, are available from the
Information Commissioner*s website
