Dear Central Scotland Police,

I would like to request some information about your forces used of in car mobile data terminals. I have a number of questions:

a. Does your force have any vehicles fitted with mobile data terminals?
b. If yes to B, how many vehicles are fitted with mobile data terminals?
c. If yes to B, which make and model of mobile data terminal is in use?
d. If yes to B, what was the cost to install the mobile data terminals in the vehicle?
e. If yes to B, what is the annual cost to maintain the mobile data terminals in the vehicles?

For clarification, item A. I consider a mobile data terminal to be any piece of hardware designed to allow the user of the vehicle access to Police systems whilst they are at a place other than a Police station (i.e. a laptop installed in the car). Although for clarification purposes I would not consider a two way radio which is only operated as a two way radio to be a mobile data terminal.

For clarification, item D. The term cost to install will take in to account any costs associated with the procurement and purchase of the mobile data terminal, any cradles/holders, wiring looms and time taken to fit all of the equipment in the Police vehicle.

For clarification, item E. The term annual cost to maintain would take in to account data useage costs, any rental of equipment, repairs, any costs incurred to maintain the systems currently in use.

Yours faithfully,

Nick S
