Mixed Vaccines if have existing blood clotting problem
Dear The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation,
I have a history of blood clots incl DVTs, PEs and Strokes.
I had the Astra Zeneca on 30/1/21 and was extremely unwell for 2 weeks
I do have daily injections of blood thinners.
I would like to know if I can have the Pfizer instead as my 2nd vaccine?
I am now 17 weeks into the course, will I have to start again and do I have
any protection at the moment.
An urgent response would be much appreciated.
I am still shielding as extremely clinically vulnerable.
Yours faithfully,
Mrs Cook
OFFICIAL
Dear Mrs Cook
Thank you for your email of 25 May to Public Health England (PHE)
regarding your 2^nd COVID-19 vaccination.
Please see information for healthcare practitioners at
[1]https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk...,
which notes:
“In addition to giving a different second vaccine where the first vaccine
is unknown or was a vaccine given abroad that is not available in the UK,
there are certain other situations in which it may be appropriate to give
a different second vaccine to the first, providing there are no
contraindications. These are:
Individuals who experience severe adverse reactions after the first dose,
including:
• people with severe allergies/anaphylaxis to the vaccine or its
components (for example, polyethylene glycol (PEG)) • after discussion
with, and on the advice of, an allergy specialist, people with idiopathic
anaphylaxis or a history of anaphylaxis to multiple other medicines
• individuals who experience a clotting episode with concomitant
thrombocytopenia following the first dose of AstraZeneca vaccine.
If an individual experienced a severe adverse reaction to their first dose
of COVID-19 vaccine, advice in the Green Book COVID-19 chapter regarding
second doses should be followed and expert clinical opinion from a
specialist should be sought if further advice is required.”
If you have any questions or concerns about COVID-19 vaccination please
discuss this with your local health care provider or NHSE via: Telephone:
0300 311 22 33 or Email: [2][email address].
I hope this information is helpful.
Yours Sincerely
Hazel
