Misusing police resources (and position) to harass/stitch-up members of the public

Dear West Yorkshire Police,

1) What measures are in place to prevent officers abusing their position by committing police resources to harass/stitch-up etc., members of the public who have got on the wrong side of officers serving with West Yorkshire police, for example, by exposing corruption/misconduct?

2) What position of seniority would an officer serving with West Yorkshire police need to hold for it to be feasible for him/her to be successful in carrying out this kind of abuse?

Thank you for your correspondence received by my office on the 28/06/2017.

 

You have requested the following information under the terms of the
Freedom of Information Act 2000:

 

1) What measures are in place to prevent officers abusing their position
by committing police resources to harass/stitch-up etc., members of the
public who have got on the wrong side of officers serving with West
Yorkshire police, for example, by exposing corruption/misconduct?

 

2) What position of seniority would an officer serving with West Yorkshire
police need to hold for it to be feasible for him/her to be successful in
carrying out this kind of abuse?

 

Your request will now be considered and you will receive a response within
the statutory timescale as defined by the Act, subject to the information
not being exempt. In some circumstances West Yorkshire Police may be
unable to achieve this deadline. If this is likely you will be informed at
the earliest opportunity. If you no longer require the information, please
inform us at your earliest convenience.
