Kershaw Ian, Haringey Borough Council

Dear Ms Smithson,

Re: Freedom of Information Act Request ref: LBH/10191920

Thank you for your request for information received on 20 August 2020, in
which you asked for the following:

- The number of missed bin collections in 2018, 2019 and 2020

- How many extra bin lorries had to be sent out to pick up bins missed
during their routine collections in 2018, 2019, 2020

- The additional costs to the council resulting from missed bin
collections in 2018, 2019 and 2020

- The average weekly and annual costs to the council of collecting
domestic waste, as in the regular landfill waste, food waste and recycling
created by homes which is collected by the council.

My response is as follows:

The number of missed bin collections is recorded as missed bins per
100,000 population by waste stream (residual and recycling and by
financial year. Figures available to date are:

                        Residual           Recycling

2018/19            35.5                  43.7

2019/20            41.4                  52.8

Waste collection in Haringey is carried out through an integrated waste
management contract with Veolia Environmental Services. The contract
covers waste and street cleansing, fleet management and winter
maintenance. Costs cannot be broken out by constituent parts as it is an
outcome based contract. The overall value of the contract is approximately
£17m annually. Any missed collections have to be recovered by the
contractor and so “additional” journeys to collect missed collections are
borne by the contractor at no additional cost to the Council.

If you are unhappy with how we have responded to your request you can ask
us to conduct an Internal Review. If so, please contact the [1]Corporate
Feedback Team.  (Please note you should do so within two months of this
response.)

Yours sincerely,
