Thank you for your email dated 13 March about the school census. You
wrote:

“I would like to see a breakdown of which Software is used by schools to
return the school census to the department e.g. their MIS Supplier.

Please could you provide the following information in an excel spreadsheet
containing the following fields:

•Local authority Number

•School Number

•School name

•Establishment Type (ie. community School, nursery, Voluntary aided school
etc)

•Establishment phase (i.e. primary, secondary)

•MIS Software Used

•Numbers of pupils on roll

Please provide this information from the most recent complete census
(Spring Census 2018).”

I have dealt with your request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

The January 2018 school census collection has not yet concluded and data
from this census will not be available until after the publication of the
[1]schools, pupils and their characteristics statistical first release in
June 2018. I have noted your email address and will forward you the
requested information immediately following publication of the
aforementioned statistical first release.

In the meantime, an Excel spreadsheet containing the latest available
information is enclosed. This comes from the 2017 autumn school census and
contains the local authority number, establishment (school) number, school
name, establishment type, establishment phase, software supplier code and
the number of pupils in each school. It is not possible to provide the
software supplier name as this is information is not held. However, the
included software supplier code contains the software supplier name in the
majority of cases.

If you have any queries about this letter, please contact me. Please
remember to quote the reference number above in any future communications.

If you are unhappy with the way your request has been handled, you should
make a complaint to the Department by writing to me within two calendar
months of the date of this letter.  Your complaint will be considered by
an independent review panel, who were not involved in the original
consideration of your request. 

If you are not content with the outcome of your complaint to the
Department, you may then contact the Information Commissioner’s Office.
