Minority Ethnic Communities Cultural Awareness-Judaism

The request was partially successful.

Dear Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust,

1. What minority ethnic groups do staff receive training on?(please list them by name)

2. Does each of the inpatient wards have access to the Torah and the Talmud if a patient should wish to read one?

3. Is kosher food available to inpatients on longer stay wards and patients on the Crisis assessment unit?

4. The same utensils cannot be used for meat and dairy,Are disposable utensils and plates available for patients?

5. Orthodox Jews will strictly observe Shabbat and may not wish to write, travel or be involved with work-related issues, what steps are taken by CMHTs to ensure Jewish patients are not disturbed during these times.

6. If you are serving halal meat products to patients, visitors, staff either halal certified or sourced from a company that may use religious slaughter methods, are the meals fully labelled in any way as halal or may contain halal?

This could be (but not limited to), the menu cards presented to patients in ward, clearly marked and labelled in any staff or patient restaurants, cafes or any place within your establishments where food is served or sold.

7. What provision do you have, if any, for non religiously slaughtered meals to those who do not wish to eat halal or kosher slaughtered meat?

Yours faithfully,

D Harris
