Dear Ms Birkby

For clarification NDA haven't purchased any "mining licenses" at LLWR. NDA purchased the mines and minerals rights relating to the area of land on the attached plan.

The LLWR site was subject to third party ownership of sub-strata minerals within known areas of the site. This issue left LLWR with inadequate legal rights. A decision was therefore taken to acquire these mineral rights to safeguard the long term operations of the site.

If you are unhappy with the way your request for information has been handled, you can request the NDA carry out an internal review, in the first instance contact [email address]

If you remain dissatisfied with the handling of your request or complaint you have a right to appeal to the Information Commissioner at:

Dear Ms Birkby

See set out below our response to your queries -

Q1 - I require sight of the NDA purchased mines and minerals rights relating to the area of land on the attached plan.

The transfer of title filing, associated with the area marked on the plan, will be available from the Land Registry - https://www.gov.uk/government/organisati...

See attached - copy of the relevant TR5 form submitted to the Land Registry which details what was purchased (information out of scope of this request has been removed from the attached).

Q 2 - What are the sub-strata minerals within known areas of the site?

British Geological Survey has done work on the geology underlying the land covered by the plan. This information is available via the .gov.uk website (as part of the GDF siting process) -

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/about-nation...

Also information re. geology underlying the Low Level Waste Repository (LLWR), has been published as part of the site environmental safety case -

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/llwr-site-en...

We trust that the above has provided you with the necessary information.

However, if you are unhappy with the way your request for information has been handled, you can request the NDA carry out an internal review, in the first instance contact [email address]

If you remain dissatisfied with the handling of your request or complaint you have a right to appeal to the Information Commissioner at:
