Milk production by holding

Christine Page made this Freedom of Information request to Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

Dear Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board,

You collect a levy from all milk producers and direct sellers of milk each year. Please would you provide a list showing the annual litres produced or sold direct by each holding in each country in the UK, for the most recent data you have available. Please separate production from direct sales such that the direct sales figure by holding is clear.

Yours faithfully,

Christine Page

Guy Attenborough, Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board

Dear Ms Page,

Further to your emailed request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000
for a list showing the annual litres produced or sold direct by each milk
producer holding in each country in the UK.

The Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board does not collect or
hold the information requested pertaining to litres of milk produced/sold
by individual producers/holdings into the supply chain. We collect our
milk levy via the registered purchasers of milk based on the total litres
of milk purchased by them each month in Great Britain (note: our
geographic scope for dairy is not UK, it is limited to GB). This method of
levy collection is specified in our Statutory Instrument Schedule 3, Part
5 (The Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board Order 2008 –
No.576).

We do hold production data for the small number of ‘direct sellers’ of
milk in GB, where we collect levy directly from those producers. However
we are withholding that information under the exemption of sections 43 (2)
of FOIA since it would be likely to prejudice the commercial interests of
those producers if provided to a competitor.

Aggregated and anonymised milk production data is [1]published by Defra,
similar surveys are run in Scotland and Northern Ireland. There is also
daily and monthly production data published on the [2]AHDB Dairy website

If you are unhappy with the service you have received in relation to your
request you may make a complaint or appeal against our decision under
section 17(7) of the FOIA or under regulation 18 of the EIRs, as
applicable, within 40 working days of the date of this letter. Please
follow the AHDB [3]complaints procedure on our website

If you are not content with the outcome of the internal review, section 50
of the FOIA and regulation 18 of the EIRs gives you the right to apply
directly to the Information Commissioner for a decision. Please note that
generally the Information Commissioner cannot make a decision unless you
have first exhausted AHDB’s own complaints procedure. The Information
Commissioner can be contacted at: Information Commissioner’s Office,
Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire SK9 5AF

Yours

Guy Attenborough
