Military Exercise

Gary Jones made this Freedom of Information request to South Wales Police Automatic anti-spam measures are in place for this older request. Please let us know if a further response is expected or if you are having trouble responding.

The request was partially successful.

Dear South Wales Police,

I am requesting information and answers to questions about an event that took place during the late hours of Thursday February 25th & early hours Friday 26th 2016 in Pentrych & Smilog Woods of Llantrisant.

According to the military a training exercise named Chameleon was conducted during this time and it it this exercise I am inquiring about. Could you please provide me with any information about what notifications and prior preparations that you took for this exercise.

Could you answer these questions and provide me with any files or documents related to them.

1: A number of roads were closed off during the exercise in and around Royal Glamorgan hospital and Smilog Woods. Who exactly gave this order? Why was it nessecary to close the roads? and whose job was it to close the roads during the times stated?

2: A number of residents reported strange lights in the skies of Llantritsant with military vehicles also present. What reports did the police receive about this issue of strange lights? and can I please have copies of any and all reports made to your offices about that time?

3: Residents who called 101 to understand the events of that night received a response to their requests stating it was an exercise. Where exactly did this information come from to explain to callers this was an exercise? I would also request copies of phone calls or transcripts of these calls when made for the time mentioned above, is it possible to receive these copies?

4: During the early hours of Friday 26th February 2016 reports of loud explosions came in from residents concerned with the military and these noises. What reports did your offices receive? and what was done to ascertain the origins of them?

I understand this is a lot I am asking but please treat my request with the utmost integrity and if their are any questions or queries then please contact me.

Yours faithfully,

Gary Jones

Dear South Wales Police,

I am stating this request as REFUSED as your response seems to be one of non-compliance and I am sorry to say it... laziness. What is the purpose of the FREEDOM OF INFORMATION if the reply you give is one of "vexatious" adjective 'causing or tending to cause annoyance, frustration, or worry'..... to whom exactly?

I am making a reasonable request for which any clerk or office employee in your department can deal with, yet you hide behind silly phrases and words and use so called jargon as Section.14 as if its content means anything.

The purpose of FOI is to provide information when requested to its citizens. We're supposed to be living in a Democratic society of openness and fairness, but this seems to only apply when the its institutions can be bothered to raise a finger and do their jobs when requested.

Yours faithfully,

Gary Jones

Dear South Wales Police,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of South Wales Police's handling of my FOI request 'Military Exercise'.

[ GIVE DETAILS ABOUT YOUR COMPLAINT HERE ]

I feel the South Wales police has not attempted to fulfil my request and has ignored the FOI completely.

The response of 'vexatious' 'causing or tending to cause annoyance, frustration, or worry' does not fall into the guidelines they have stated. I feel this was a reasonable request, that any office clerk could've accomplished and at least a reasonable part of it should've been successful.

A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at this address: https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/m...

Yours faithfully,

Gary Jones
