Metropolitan Police Road Safe London Service

The request was successful.

Dear Metropolitan Police Service (MPS),

I'd like to investigate the efficacy and usage of your Roadsafe
website (https://secure.met.police.uk/roadsafelon...), and am
therefore seeking answers to the following queries:

(Where this data is available.)

1. How many people have been contacted since 1 January 2011 (i.e. those listed in
'driver details' or 'vehicle details')

4. What action has been taken in each instance? (If detail is expensive to provide, you may simply advise how many have been cautioned, how many have had words of advice or similar, and how many have been pursued with further legal means.)

5. Has any cost benefit analysis or similar been done of the site and its activity? (If so, can you supply this data or report?)

Many thanks in advance for your time on these questions.

Yours faithfully,

Robert Andrews

Metropolitan Police Service (MPS)

EXTENT OF SEARCHES TO LOCATE INFORMATION

To locate the information relevant to your request searches were conducted
at Traffic Operational Command Unit

RESULT OF SEARCHES

The searches located the following information relevant to your request.

DECISION

I have today decided to disclose the located information to you in full.

Please find attached information pursuant to your request above.

Road safe is an intelligence tool that enables the public to provide
information to the police about criminal, nuisance or anti-social
behaviour on London’s roads. The aim is to use the information to stop the
most dangerous drivers putting everyone else at risk and to make London’s
roads as safe as they can be.

In particular we want to know about people who:

* Drive under the influence of drink or drugs
* Drive with no insurance
* Drive without a licence or whilst disqualified from driving
* Using an un-roadworthy vehicle

We are also happy to hear about:

* Drivers who race or excessively rev their cars close to homes.
* Road layouts that you think may be dangerous or could be improved.

The information is used to build an intelligence picture and where
appropriate proactively target the issue that has been brought to our
attention.

It is not a means to report crime, collisions or other offences. This must
be done at a police station. Road safe does not in itself issue Cautions
or Words of advice.

Since January 1st 2011 and up to Tuesday October 5th Roadsafe has received
a total of 1910 contacts.
It has not been possible to establish the outcome of each contact as this
would be extremely time consuming and disproportionate. An over view can
however be provided. Out of the 1910 contacts :-

* 565 resulted in a letter being sent to the registered keeper
of a vehicle advising them of the report to Road safe and
raising awareness of road safety.
* 31 resulted in the issue being referred to the Traffic
Criminal Justice Unit for their consideration. All of these
cases consisted of an allegation with accompanying video
footage which contained sufficient evidence of an offence to
justify further referral.

Other referrals include :-

* Referred to other police forces ( Roadsafe is Met wide only)
* Referred to Parks police
* Referred to the Borough Safer Neighbourhood Team
* Referred to the Public Carriage Office.
* Intelligence briefing slide disseminated
* Proactive tasking ( where the information is specific
regarding location, days and time)
* Entry on the formal intelligence system
* No further action at that time (index monitored for any
further reports)

This is not a definitive list.
Cost benefit analysis has not been conducted at this stage as it is a
relatively new project.
