Metric prices

The request was successful.

Dear Isleham Parish Council,

I'm sure it's unintentional but I'd like to draw to your attention the council is breaking the law by using primary non-metric prices. See
http://isleham-village.co.uk/IPC%20Minut...
"£1.20 per rod"

Primary prices must be metric. Trading standards allow the use of old units but only if secondary to a primary metric price. Thus the following are illegal:
£1.20 per rod
£1.20 per rod (approx 4.8p per square metre)

The following are legal:
4.8p per square metre
4.8p per square metre (approx £1.20 per rod)

Obeying price law:
* does not require anything to be remeasured
* does not require the price to be changed, it's just an arithmetic task for the council
* does not require whole numbers in the price per unit.
* does not prevent the use of an equivalent non-metric price as long as it is secondary to a primary metric price.
* can be done immediately

I appreciate this legal point may merely have been overlooked by the council. If you look at supermarket prices, you'll see that's how the law is enforced. It seems reasonable to me that this can be easily resolved within this financial year or the next. I'm sure if you contact Trading Standards, they'll provide advice.

Specific requests:
In which financial year will the council complete the transition to primary metric prices?

Yours faithfully,
David Johnson

Diane Bayliss, Isleham Parish Council

Dear Mr Johnson,

Thank you for your request for information about allotment rent
payments in Isleham. I have included the item on the agenda for the
parish council meeting Monday 1st December for note and I can confirm
that the council will make the transition to metric prices in the
financial year 2015-16 as the rents for 2014-15 have already been
invoiced.

Kind Regards

Mrs Diane Bayliss
Clerk to the Council
