Dear Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council,
Could you tell me if it is legal to metal detect on all wirral beaches, i have a crown permit so does this cover all the beaches on the wirral, yours faithfully Gary Mercer.
Dear Mr Mercer
Thank you for your Freedom of Information request in which you asked:
"... is it legal to metal detect on all Wirral beaches, I have a crown
permit so does this cover all the beaches on the Wirral?"
Wirral Council can advise that the Crown Estate Permit only covers areas
owned by the Crown Estate. The Crown Estate Website (see
has more information and the attached map showing the land they consider
This shows that most of Wirral's Foreshore or beach is not Crown Estate
On Wirral Council foreshore there is no permission in place for Metal
detecting. Please see
