Dear Mr Jones

LFS/AH/RSN18128

Thank you for your recent request made under the Freedom of Information Act. Please find Merseytravel’s response to your questions below.

1. How much financial assistance does Merseytravel grant the British Transport Police per year for policing Merseyrail network.

For the current financial year (2018/19) the contribution from the Merseytravel’s TravelSafe budget to British Transport Police is £114,439. This payment funds four Police Community Support Officers.

2. What percentage of Merseyrail income per year does Serco-Abellio take?

Merseytravel has no recorded information to provide to you in response to this question. You would need to redirect this enquiry to Merseyrail (https://www.merseyrail.org/contact-us.aspx), however as they are not a public body and are therefore not subject to the Freedom of Information Act, any response they provide will be purely voluntary.

3: What percentage of Merseyrail income per year does Merseytravel take?

Merseytravel does not receive a percentage of Merseyrail income.

As stated on p.60 of Merseytravel’s Statement of Accounts 2017/18 (https://www.merseytravel.gov.uk/about-us...

‘Under the concession agreement in respect of Merseyrail Electrics (MEL), there is an agreement that surpluses above a certain threshold are shared between MEL and Merseytravel. Merseytravel’s net share for 2017/18 was £2.8m (2016/17 £3.4m). For 2017/18 costs of £1.5m (2016/17 £1.5m) and income of £4.3m (2016/17 £4.8m) have been included in Merseytravel income and expenditure.’

4: Where can the full audited accounts for Merseyrail be viewed?

As a private company, Merseyrail’s accounts can be viewed at Companies House (https://beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/compa...).
