Mersey tunnel toll fee

The request was successful.

Dear Merseytravel,

Please can you tell me if any of the profit generated from the Mersey Tunnels is used to subsidize other areas of Merseytravel and if so exactly how much of the toll fee (£1.70 or £1.20 for tag users) goes to other parts of Merseytravel and also which other parts of Merseytravel receive the most support from the tunnels.

Yours faithfully,

Luke

Dear Luke

LFS/AH/RSN16193

Thank you for your request, which has been processed under the Freedom of Information Act.

Information regarding Mersey Tunnels revenue is available in the published accounts of the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, which are available on Merseytravel's website at the following link (http://www.merseytravel.gov.uk/about-us/...).

As stated on the Mersey Tunnels page of our website:

The two Tunnels are part of the wider transport network and cannot be considered in isolation. The surplus, which is built into the provisions of the Tunnel Act 2004, provides valuable revenue which is ring-fenced for a funding pot that pays into projects such as Park and Ride schemes, new bus stations and access improvements across Merseyside - money that would otherwise be unavailable. This is what an integrated transport network is about.

The Mersey Tunnels Act 2004 can be found at the following link (http://dclg.ptfs-europe.com/AWData/Libra...).

Your request is therefore refused under Section 21 of the Act as the information is already reasonably accessible via other means. The Information Commissioner's Office has issued guidance on Section 21, which can be found on their website here.

If you are dissatisfied with the handling of your request, you have the right under the Act to ask for an internal review, which should be addressed to:
Mrs Julie Watling

If you are not content with the result of your internal review, you also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner, whose address is
