Mental health and wellbeing services for children and young people

Dear Orkney Islands Council,

Of the 230 addition, or enhanced, mental health and wellbeing supports and services for 5 to 24 year olds, announced by the Scottish Government, as part of their recovery from the pandemic could you please answer the following questions.

h. How many children and young people are expected to use the service for the term of funding?
i. What consultation was done with children and young people and parents on the design and commissioning of these services.

2. Which new or enhanced services will this money be allocated to, and is each service
a. New or enhanced?
2020/21 Enhancement to Child and Adolescent Mental health for development of Mental Health and emotional Wellbeing Services for Children and Young People
2021/22 Enhanced additional Capacity and medical input for mental health services

b. If enhanced how many extra places are available for children and young people?
6 weekly additional sessions are available following successful recruitment, this will increase as other posts become recruited.

c. Digital, physical or telephone based? A combination of all three approaches.

d. If digital, is the service self-help? No.

e. What is the age range of children and young people this service supports? 5-24

f. For how long will this service be able to run on this funding? Permanent posts have been recruited to for this service enhancement.

g. What is the referral pathway for this service? Referral into this service can be completed through GP Practice, Social Work, or other relevant professional or third sector bodies.

h. How many children and young people are expected to use the service for the term of funding? Uncertain at this stage.

i. What consultation was done with children and young people and parents on the design and commissioning of these services.
Evidence provided by the Scottish government was used. An islands health and wellbeing survey was also completed and findings were supportive of the needs of the service.

Under FOISA, if you are dissatisfied with our response, you may ask the Council to review its handling of your request.
