Dear Ravensbourne University London,

Under the Freedom of Information Act please could you provide me with some information about student mental health.

Across the University, what was the number of students, broken down for each academic year between 2008-9 and 2018-19, who intermitted for specifically mental health issues?

Of these students who intermitted, how many each year returned to the University to resume their studies one year after intermitting?

Of these students who intermitted, how many each year never returned to the University to resume their studies?

Please could you also provide me with the number of students, broken down for each academic year between 2008- 9 and 2018- 19, who have accessed counselling services provided by the university. If possible, please provide a breakdown of the types of issue the students are seeking help for.

Please could you provide me with this information in an excel spreadsheet.

If you need any clarification then please do not hesitate to contact me. Under Section 16 it is your duty to provide advice and assistance and so I would expect you to contact me if you find this request unmanageable in any way.

Yours faithfully,

Tilda Coleman

Dear Tilda,
Thank you for your patience whilst I have looked into your request.
Where a student completes a form to defer their studies, one of the
questions on the form is a tick box of the reason for deferral.
The options are Health, Financial, Work Placement, Personal or other.
Unfortunately, Mental Health is not explicitly mentioned.
So far in the 2019/20 Academic Year - 4 Students have ticked the Health
Box  (This includes all health reasons, not just mental health)
In the 2018/19 Academic Year - 24 Students ticked the Health Box (This
includes all health reasons, not just mental health)
Unfortunately for the 2017/18 Academic Year and before the question was
not mandatory. As a result students did not answer the question and so
their deferral was recorded as 'other'
I hope this helps.
If you have no further questions, please can I ask that you set your query
to complete.
Kind Regards
Chiz
