Dear University of Liverpool,

Under the Freedom of Information Act please could you provide me with some information about student mental health.

Across the University, what was the number of students, broken down for each academic year between 2008-9 and 2018-19, who intermitted for specifically mental health issues?

Of these students who intermitted, how many each year returned to the University to resume their studies one year after intermitting?

Of these students who intermitted, how many each year never returned to the University to resume their studies?

Please could you also provide me with the number of students, broken down for each academic year between 2008- 9 and 2018- 19, who have accessed counselling services provided by the university. If possible, please provide a breakdown of the types of issue the students are seeking help for.

Please could you provide me with this information in an excel spreadsheet.

If you need any clarification then please do not hesitate to contact me. Under Section 16 it is your duty to provide advice and assistance and so I would expect you to contact me if you find this request unmanageable in any way.

Yours faithfully,

Tilda Coleman

Dear Ms Coleman,

Thank you for your email of 16^th November requesting information from the
University of Liverpool.  With apologies for the delay, colleagues have
provided the information requested below.

Across the University, what was the number of students, broken down for
each academic year between 2008-9 and 2018-19, who intermitted for
specifically mental health issues?

Of these students who intermitted, how many each year returned to the
University to resume their studies one year after intermitting?

Of these students who intermitted, how many each year never returned to
the University to resume their studies?

We do not hold records on the number of students who leave or suspend
their studies for reasons relating to their mental health.   Although the
University records students’ reasons for suspending or leaving studies,
there is not a specific category for mental health difficulties. There is
an ill health category and a personal reasons category but providing
figures for either category will not specifically identify students
suspending or leaving their studies due to a mental health condition.

Please could you also provide me with the number of students, broken down
for each academic year between 2008- 9 and 2018- 19, who have accessed
counselling services provided by the university.

Please see the attached Excel spreadsheet.

If possible, please provide a breakdown of the types of issue the students
are seeking help for.

We are unable to provide specific numbers for students who present by
issue.

If you are unhappy with the way we have handled your request for
