Membership of BPA (British Parking Association)

Jon WIlliams made this Freedom of Information request to Scarborough Borough Council as part of a batch sent to 245 authorities

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

The request was partially successful.

Dear Scarborough Borough Council,

I have noted that in their latest list of members the BPA (British Parking Association) lists yourselves:

The BPA is not a highly regarded organisation by many motorists and seen as ineffective in regulating the private parking operators who make up the bulk of its membership; MPs in the House of Commons have also echoed these concerns.

Therefore, can you please provide the following information about your membership:
- The date you first become a member.
- The reason for becoming the member.
- How it benefits your residents by being a member.
- Benefits received by being a member of the BPA.
- The annual costs for being a member of the BPA.

Yours faithfully,

Mr Jonathan WIlliams

Dear Jon Williams

Thank you for your request which has been dealt with under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA). You requested the following information:

- The date you first become a member.

The Council do not hold this information as have been members for several years. A check of financial records held show that the Council were members in 2009/10 and continue to be members.

- The reason for becoming the member.

A record of this has not been produced by The Council.

As you may be aware, the FOI Act provides a right of access to recorded information held by a public authority. It does not require that a public authority provide views, or create information for the purposes of answering a request. Accordingly, we cannot handle your query under the FOI Act as it is not a request for recorded information held by the Council.

- How it benefits your residents by being a member.

As Above

- Benefits received by being a member of the BPA.

Section 21 - Accessible via Other Means
I can confirm that Scarborough Borough Council holds this information. The information is exempt under Section 21 of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), because the information is reasonably accessible to you, as it is already in the public domain at:
