Members Interests Firing Ranges

Richard Card made this Freedom of Information request to Thanet District Council

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

The request was successful.

Dear Thanet District Council,

Are elected members required to declare membership and/or use of gun ranges (which are subject of TDC planning control)

If so which members have declared themselves to be users, past users, members or past members of Thanet Gun ranges.

I notice that "Shooting" is listed as a hobby on the work related CV of Cllr Simon MOORES.

Yet I can find no record of his declaring this when commenting about complaints against a Thanet Range on blogs.

Please respond to this request and copy to Harvey Pattinson.

Dear Alan Martin,

Thanks for your response. I assume that this would be an interest to declare specific to any cttee meeting that is considering TDC enforcement or consent ?

If you could forward this FOI to Harvey please that would be good.

Dear Alan Martin,

In subsequent Standards Complaint it emerged that Thanet Council has no policy for compliance with the statutory reporting duties of Terrorism Act 2000.

As far as Planning enforcement jurisdiction and cllr declaration of interest are concerned you need to refer to Section 54 Terrorism Act 2000.

For the public record Cllr Simon Moores has contacted me to say he actually knows nothing about activity at the range in question. (In spite of his blog comments to the contrary).

I have reported to Lord Carlile QC and the independent QC who took over the role of monitoring Terrorism Law effectiveness. I invited Harvey Patterson TDC solicitor and Cllr Simon Moores to contribute. I do not know whether they wrote directly or elected silence.

I suspect it is the latter.

Cllr Moores has elected to have press publish that he was recently interviewed under caution by police about his blogging activity.

I wish to put on public record what is set out above.

Yours sincerely,

Richard Card
