Dear Foreign and Commonwealth Office,

I would like to request under the Freedom of Information Act, the following information:

Were any of the British prisoners at Guantanamo Bay given Lariam (Mefloquine) at any point during their internment? And in what dosages?

Yours faithfully,

Bridget Coldwell

Dear Foreign and Commonwealth Office,

On 6 November I made an FOI request regarding the use of Lariam/Mefloquine at Guantanamo Bay.

I have not had a response and would remind you that by law, your response is long overdue.

I expect a full answer to my question within the week.

Yours faithfully,

bridget coldwell

Dear Ms Coldwell

Thank you for your email about the use of specific medications
administered to British prisoners at Guantanamo Bay.  I am responding as
the appropriate official.

The UK Government has not been informed about medications the US medical
staff administered to prisoners at Guantanamo Bay.  I can only suggest
that you submit your enquiry to the US authorities who may be in a better
position to respond to your enquiry.

Yours sincerely

Philip Sheppard

Dear Foreign and Commonwealth Office,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of Foreign and Commonwealth Office's handling of my FOI request 'Mefloquine (Lariam) at Guantanamo'.

The response I was given is inadequate, not least because the question I asked should be something that interests the Ministry and counter-terrorism. Lariam (Mefloquine) has neuropsychiatric side-effects; Cuba is a non-malarious area and no US service personnel or contractors working at Guantanamo were given it although every inmate was forced to take a therapeutic dose (four times the prophylactic treatment). Perhaps you could make enquiries of your American counterparts and let me have a full response in due course?

A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at this address: https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/m...

Yours faithfully,
