Dear Heatherwood and Wexham Park Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust,

NB.I AM ONLY INTERESTED IN THE DATA FOR PATIENTS PRESCRIBED 30MG OR MORE DAILY TO BE TAKEN CONTINUOUSLY WITH NO BREAK IN ALL QUESTIONS ASKED.

PLEASE COULD YOU SUPPLY ME WITH ANSWERS TO THE FOLLOWING :

1)How many patients visited Dr Phillip Reginald at Wexham Park Hospital during the period of AUGUST 2005 to NOVEMBER 2005 for a surgical hysterectomy but were placed on high dose hormone therapy (Medroxyprogesterone Acetate) instead?

2)Were all patients who were started on the above protocol informed it was a clinical trial?

3)Was consent obtained in all cases?

4)As a dose this high could cause cardiovascular problems/stroke what follow up care and monitoring did all the patients placed on Medroxyprogesterone Acetate between AUGUST 2005 to NOVEMBER 2005 have?

5)Were all patients informed of the risk of cardiovascular problems/stroke prior to starting treatment?

6)How many patients developed "symptoms of concern" that would warrant ending the treatment?

7)How many patients actually suffered cardiovascular problems or stroke within nine months of commencing treatment?

8)Did all who suffered strokes and survived go on to lead the same lives as before treatment commenced?

THANK YOU

Yours faithfully,

Nicola Jenkins

Dear Ms Jenkins

HEATHERWOOD AND WEXHAM PARK HOSPITALS NHS FOUNDTION TRUST

We are writing in response to your Freedom of Information request dated
2nd June.

Taking your questions in turn;

1)How many patients visited Dr Phillip Reginald at Wexham Park
Hospital during the period of AUGUST 2005 to NOVEMBER 2005 for a surgical
hysterectomy but were placed on high dose hormone therapy
(Medroxyprogesterone Acetate) instead?

We are unable to supply you with this information as this information is
not held as a separate record. Everything regarding an individual is held
on the individual’s case notes and to access this information would mean
attempting to identify all of Mr Reginald’s patients for the period in
question and then interrogating all the notes individually.  This would
take the request ‘above the appropriate limit’ in accordance with section
12 of the Freedom of Information Act. The appropriate limit is defined as
more than 18 hours of work time.  For guidance on the ‘appropriate limit’
please see the Trust website at [1]www.heatherwoodandwexham.nhs.uk  or the
Information Commissioner’s website at [2]www.ico.gov.uk

2)Were all patients who were started on the above protocol
informed it was a clinical trial?

This Trust has never carried out a clinical trial for Medroxyprogesterone
Hormone Therapy.

3)Was consent obtained in all cases?

This question is not applicable, as a clinical trial has not been carried
out by this Trust.

4)As a dose this high could cause cardiovascular problems/stroke what
follow up care and monitoring did all the patients placed on
Medroxyprogesterone Acetate between AUGUST 2005 to NOVEMBER 2005 have?

We are unable to supply you with this information as this information is
not held as a separate record. Everything regarding an individual is held
on the individual’s case notes and to access this information would mean
attempting to identify all of Mr Reginald’s patients for the period in
question and then interrogating all the notes individually.  This would
take the request ‘above the appropriate limit’ in accordance with section
12 of the Freedom of Information Act. The appropriate limit is defined as
more than 18 hours of work time.  For guidance on the ‘appropriate limit’
please see the Trust website at [3]www.heatherwoodandwexham.nhs.uk  or the
Information Commissioner’s website at [4]www.ico.gov.uk

5)Were all patients informed of the risk of cardiovascular
problems/stroke prior to starting treatment?

All patients starting on any medication would be informed of any
significant risk

6)How many patients developed "symptoms of concern" that would
warrant ending the treatment?

We are unable to provide you with details of how many patients had their
treatment altered or ended as to do so would mean interrogation of
individual patient notes which would take this request ‘above the
appropriate limit’ in FOI terms

7)How many patients actually suffered cardiovascular problems or
stroke within nine months of commencing treatment?

We are unable to provide you with details of how many patients had their
treatment altered or ended as to do so would mean interrogation of
individual patient notes which would take this request ‘above the
appropriate limit’ in FOI terms.

8)Did all who suffered strokes and survived go on to lead the same
lives as before treatment commenced?

This is ‘information not held’ in accordance with section 1 of the Freedom
of Information Act.
