Medicne A100 - Are GCSE grades important?

The request was partially successful.

Dear University College London,

Please could you kindly provide an answer and data to the following: (2015 and 2016 cycle)

1) Do GCSEs play a key role in determining whether the student gets an interview or offer? If so, how important?

2) Can you provide anonymised GCSE grades data of the people who got offers into UCL (2015 and 2016)

3)The average GCSE grades that the offered people achieved

Yours faithfully,

John Smith

Dear John,

Thank you for your enquiry which is being handled by UCL under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

It is apparent that we will require some further clarification from you before we are able to process your request.

For Q1 we will be unable to provide this information to you as it is not a request for recorded information. You can make a general enquiry on this matter to our Admissions team at: https://www.ucl.ac.uk/srs/our-services/a... or to individual departments and their course administrators. By way of information I understand that GCSE scores were not taken into account for admissions to the School of Life & Medical Sciences for the forthcoming academic year.

For Q2 can I ask if you can specify the type of grades data you are seeking? UCL admitted c.40,000 students in the academic years 2015/16 and 2016/17, many of whom will have undertaken a number of GCSE's. Would you like to request a table of data for grades achieved for specified subjects e.g. Maths, Physics.... in one column, with grades in the other?

For Q3, can I ask if we should interpret this to mean the overall average by GCSE subject for applicants with an offer, or each applicant with an offer's average for all the GCSE's they studied?

If we can be of any further assistance in helping you to refine your request please do not hesitate to let me know.

Yours sincerely,

Dear Finance.FOI Requests,

Regarding Q2, can I request for a table of grades for GCSEs - the people who got offers - what they got in their GCSEs - i.e. 10A*s , 8A*s and 2As or 6A*s and 3 As and 1B etc. Will it be possible if I could have a anonymous list of their overall GCSE grades. It isn't subject specific grades but just what they got overall in their GCSEs

Regarding Q3 - Please could you kindly interpret the question as - each applicant with offer's average for all the GCSE's they studied.

Yours sincerely,

John Smith
