The request was successful.

To whom it may concern,
I am a prospective student for your university, and I am writing to request data regarding admissions to your medicine course for the most recent admissions cycle (2024 entry) and the prior year (2023 entry).
I would like to know:
Admissions test scores (UCAT/BMAT)
• For international fee status students that were offered an interview, what was the mean score, the standard deviation of the scores, and the lowest and highest score
• For international fee status students that were offered a place, what was the mean score, the standard deviation of the scores, and the lowest and highest score
• For home fee status students that were offered an interview, what was the mean score, the standard deviation of the scores, and the lowest and highest score
• For home fee status students that were offered a place, what was the mean score, the standard deviation of the scores, and the lowest and highest score

• Did you have an official UCAT cut off score, if so what is this for international students and what is it for home students?
• How is your cut off score selected? Is it linked to the official UCAT deciles data released for each cycle or is it an internal decision by your admissions team and the applications that year?

Ranking candidates and interviews
• How many interviews were held? And what was the split between the number for international students vs home fees student?
• What elements of an application do you use to form your scoring system/calculation used to rank students for interviews and for places?
• What was the cut off “score” for this in terms of students invited to interview?

Exam Grades
• For GCSE grades, do you have a cut off for the number of 7s, 8s and 9s offered an interview/place?
• For A level grades, do you have a cut off for the number of As and A*s in predicted grades offered an interview/place?

Finance.FOI Requests, University College London

Dear Safiya,

Thank you for your request for information made under the Freedom of
Information Act (FOIA) 2000.

We confirm that we hold the information of the description specified in
your request; please see our response below.

Your request and our response

I am a prospective student for your university, and I am writing to
request data regarding admissions to your medicine course for the most
recent admissions cycle (2024 entry) and the prior year (2023 entry).
I would like to know:

For Admissions tests scores (UCAT/BMAT)

1. For international fee status students that were offered an interview,
what was the mean score, the standard deviation of the scores, and the
lowest and highest score.

In 2023 the scores were as follows:

• Mean score - 14.08
• Lowest Score - 13.1
• Highest Score - 17.1

2. For international fee status students that were offered a place, what
was the mean score, the standard deviation of the scores, and the lowest
and highest score.

In 2023 the scores were as follows:

• Mean Score - 13.9
• Lowest Score - 13.1
• Highest Score - 15.8

3. For home fee status students that were offered an interview, what was
the mean score, the standard deviation of the scores, and the lowest and
highest score.

In 2023 the scores were as follows:

• Mean Score - 11.5
• Lowest Score - 9.0
• Highest Score - 16.1

4. For home fee status students that were offered a place, what was the
mean score, the standard deviation of the scores, and the lowest and
highest score.

In 2023 the scores were as follows:

• Mean Score - 11.6
• Lowest Score - 9.0
• Highest Score - 15.8

5. Did you have an official UCAT cut off score, if so, what is this for
international students and what is it for home students?

For candidates applying from 2024 onwards, all candidates need to have sat
the University Clinical Aptitude test (UCAT). The total score will be used
to rank and select candidates for interview. 2024/25 is the first year
that UCL will be using UCAT and therefore we do not have any historical
data for candidates to review, nor do we have a specific “cut-off” score
that candidates need to reach, to be selected for interview. The cut-off
score will be determined by the UCL medical school after all UCAT results
have been collated. It is anticipated that the 2024/2025 UCAT score will
be published on the Medical School’s website at the end of the cycle.

6. How is your cut off score selected? Is it linked to the official UCAT
deciles data released for each cycle or is it an internal decision by your
admissions team and the applications that year?

This question has been covered in question 5.

Ranking candidates and interviews

7. How many interviews were held? And what was the split between the
number for international students vs home fees student?

In 2023

• Total Interviews - 924
• Home Interviews - 831
• Overseas Interviews - 93

8. What elements of an application do you use to form your scoring
system/calculation used to rank students for interviews and for places?

Our selection procedure  can be found  here  [1]Medical School’s website.
Applicants will need to ensure that they meet our minimum entry
requirements as stated on the [2]Medicine prospectus page. We will then
select applicants for an interview based on their UCAT score alone. The
same selection procedure was used for the previous 2023 and current 2024
cycle but with the BMAT instead of the UCAT.

9. What was the cut off “score” for this in terms of students invited to
interview?

This question has been covered in question 8 .

Exam grades

10. For GCSE grades, do you have a cut off for the number of 7s, 8s and 9s
offered an interview/place?

UCL does not rank or use GCSEs in the selection process, nor have we done
so in previous cycles. Applicants we will only need to ensure that they
meet the minimum GCSE requirements for English and Maths, which is a grade
B/ 6 for both subjects.

11. For A level grades, do you have a cut off for the number of As and A*s
in predicted grades offered an interview/place?

UCL does not rank A Levels in the selection process, nor have we done so
in previous cycles. Applicants will only need to meet the minimum A Level
grades required for their application to be considered further.

Please note that we are not able to provide any statistics for the 2024
admission cycle as it is still currently running.
