Dear Freedom of Information,

I realise that the 2013/14 cycle is still active, but given that you have received all applications and rejected applicants already, I think that you should be able to release information on this cycle as other universities have done.

Yours sincerely,

Mr Dempster

Freedom of Information, University of St Andrews

Dear Mr Dempster,

I refer to your follow-on query with regard to data for the 2013/14 application cycle which I have now had a chance to consult a few of my colleagues on. I appreciate that it may seem strange that the University has not supplied 2013/14 application cycle data when other institutions have however, the application process and timescales for carrying this out vary across different institutions.

At the University of St Andrews the 2013/14 application cycle is live and we are currently still going through the decision-making process in terms of identifying who is to be invited to interview, receive an offer and be unsuccessful etc. Given the current stage of the process, the University is of the view that any provisional data that could be disclosed at the present time would be subject to such a high degree of change that it would be almost meaningless reflecting an inaccurate and misleading picture. As at the present time, the University has not made all its calls for interview (the majority will be issued by the end of March with a few others being made between March and June). The University anticipates being in a position to give the full picture based on reliable data at the end of June which it would be happy to supply then or alternatively, provide an update towards the end of April .

The University can provide you with the number of applications for 2014 entry and if you wish to receive this additional piece of information then please let me know and I will arrange for this to be supplied.

It was not clear from your communication if you wished the University to proceed to a formal review or if you were simply asking the University to clarify its original response and so I am answering this as an informal follow-on query however, if you remain dissatisfied with the university’s response and/or explanation provided above please let me know and I will proceed to a formal review and arrange for this to be carried out.

Yours sincerely,

June

Dear Freedom of Information,

Thank you for your reply. I would like to receive the data in April as you suggested, but with the number of applications now.

As you have already rejected applicants based on your global ukcat cut off score, I would also expect you to be able to provide that now.

I do not require an internal review.

Yours sincerely,

Mr Dempster

Dear Mr Dempster,

Thank you for your continued patience in relation to your request for information. I now attach the complete dataset updated to reflect the position as of 8 May 2014.

You will see that some of the figures previously provided for application cycle 2010/11 and year of entry 2011/12 have been presented differently. This change has been made to better reflect the fee status environment the students were applying in, with the RUK category being combined into the Home category for 2010/11 only. Those Home and RUK students applying n 2010/11 would not have had been differentiated between as RUK fees only came into force from 2012/13 entry.

I trust this meets your requirements.

Yours sincerely,

June
