Dear InfoRequest,

I require some clarification. While I requested EEA statistics, most universities have only been able to provide EU statistics. The point of me collecting the data is to compare different universities, therefore I need to collect it consistently. For the data you have provided, has this been for EEA, or EU applicants as a whole?

Yours sincerely,

Brandon Tillson

InfoRequest, Cardiff University

Dear Brandon,

Thank you for your email.

Our admissions team has advised the figures we have provided are inclusive
for the EEA (i.e. European Union students plus any students from the
countries which make up the EEA with the EU i.e. Iceland, Norway, and
Liechtenstein).

Our records use a fee status to distinguish between Home, EU and Overseas
Students.

Overseas students were not included in the figures provided.

Yours sincerely

Dear InfoRequest,

Thank you for this clarification. I see I have submitted another FOI asking for similar data, but from different years. I will request the EU-only data for the years in this FOI, as part of the other FOI, to keep everything in a single place.

Yours sincerely,

Brandon Tillson

InfoRequest, Cardiff University

Dear Brandon,

Just to clarify. There is no separate 'EU' and 'EEA' data - it is the same
data set.

We identify students by fee status. They are either 'home' (i.e. UK), 'EU'
or 'Overseas.

An 'EU' fee status will include students from Iceland, Lichtenstein and
Norway, i.e. the countries which make up the EEA with the EU. We are
unable to separate the two i.e. one data set for the EU and one data set
for the EEA.

Does that clarify what you have received to date?

Yours sincerely
