for A100, International/non-UK students A100 applicants and Graduate A100
applicants (for 2018/19, 2019/20 and 2020/21 application cycles)
• This highest, lowest and mean BMAT scores of applicants and those
invited to interview has been withheld under Section 40(2) of the
Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA) by virtue of Section 40(3A)(i)
because these are personal data of third parties, or if linked with
other personal identifier in the public domain, would be likely to
become personal data.
Section 40(2) of the FOIA allows a public authority to withhold
information from a response to a request under the FOIA when the
information requested is personal data relating to someone other than the
requester, and its disclosure would breach any of the Data Protection
principles.
In this case, the highest and lowest scores are unique to specific
individuals, and the mean scores apply to seven or fewer individuals. We
believe that, with such low numbers, even providing this information on an
anonymised basis, there is a risk that individuals may be identifiable.
The disclosure of this information would not be within the reasonable
expectations of the individuals concerned, and as such, would be unfair
and in breach of the first Data Protection principle which requires
personal data to be processed fairly and lawfully.
As the Section 40(2) exemption is an absolute one, there is no need to
conduct a public interest test.
14. If BMAT cut offs are implemented for interview or offer
selection, then could you please provide the cut offers for UK students
who applied for A100, non-UK students A100 applicants and Graduate A100
applicants (for 2018/19, 2019/20 and 2020/21 application cycles)
• Cut off scores were not used in the 2018/19, 2019/20 and 2020/21
application cycles.
15. Are offers completely dependent upon interview
performance/score? If not, then what other factors are taken into account
and what are their weightings/contribution in receiving an offer?
• Yes.
16. Are personal statements and work experience scored when
selecting for interview or for receiving an offer?
• Yes, in the 2018/19, 2019/20 and 2020/21 application cycles.
