Freedom of Information Officer, St John's College, Cambridge

Dear Arshia Mofrad,

Thank you for your Freedom of Information request concerning
post-qualified applicants to read Medicine (A100) at St John’s College.

To comply with your precise request would require the processing of the
personal data of individual applicants for a purpose other than that for
which it was obtained and would therefore conflict with the Data
Protection Principles. However, we hope the following information will
prove useful.

In the 2019/20 application cycle, of the applicants to read Medicine
(A100) at St John’s College, 3 had already obtained A Level
qualifications.

In the 2020/21 application cycle, of the applicants to read Medicine
(A100) at St John’s College, 4 had already obtained A Level
qualifications.

The remainder of the requested information on these post-qualified
applicants is exempt under Section 40(2) of the FOI Act (personal
information), given the very small numbers involved and the small
community of the College providing a breakdown would create a real risk of
the individuals involved being identified and their personal data (i.e.
the qualifications they took, their grades, their interview scores etc.)
becoming public knowledge.

For clarity the application cycle runs from applications opening in
September to final confirmation in the following September. For example,
the 2020/21 application cycle runs from the opening of applications in
September 2020 to confirmation in September 2021 and includes applicants
for standard entry in 2021 and deferred entry in 2022.

If you are dissatisfied with my response you may seek an internal review
in writing setting out the grounds for review. It will be dealt with by a
College Officer. Should you not be satisfied with the outcome of the
review, you will have a right of appeal to the Information Commissioner by
writing to him at Information Commissioner's Office, Wycliffe House, Water
Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 5AF.

Yours sincerely,
