Medicine A100 Entry 2020 and 2019 years

Ali Shaban made this Freedom of Information request to University of Liverpool

This request has been closed to new correspondence. Contact us if you think it should be reopened.

The request was successful.

Dear University of Liverpool,

I was hoping to ask some stats from your medical students last year.

1. How many students did you accept and give a place to last year with A level grades achieved at AAB (B in extra subject and As in bio and Chem)
2. How did you choose these AAB students if any?
3. If you have an offer holder and he or she had a good interview but dropped one grade at A level and had a EPQ grade B would you still let them attend your medical school?

Yours faithfully,
Ali Shaban

FOI/2020/074

28 February 2020

Name:  Ali Shaban

By email to: [FOI #643606 email]

Dear Mr Shaban,

Thank you for your email of 5 February requesting information from the
University of Liverpool.  Colleagues have provided the information
requested below.

How many students did you accept and give a place to last year with A
level grades achieved at AAB (B in extra subject and A’s in Biology and
Chemistry)

There were 30 Home/EU students accepted for 2019 entry with A Level grades
of AAB and above (B in extra subject and A grades in Biology and
Chemistry)

How did you choose these AAB students if any?

The A-grades have to be in Chemistry and Biology.  Please note, however,
that our criteria for 2020 has changed.  Please see our Departmental
supplement at
[1]https://www.liverpool.ac.uk/medicine/stu...
Our policy at confirmation is set at the time of confirmation and this
cannot be predicted in advance of the situation.

If you have an offer holder and he or she had a good interview but dropped
one grade at A level and had a EPQ grade B would you still let them attend
your medical school?

Medicine offers are made on the basis of 3 A Levels and EPQ does not
compensate for a drop in A Level performance.  However, decisions on
whether to make places available for applicants who drop grades is made at
the time of confirmation.  Decisions are made at confirmation and the
policy of the Institute at the time.

If you are unhappy with the way we have handled your request for
information, you have a right under Section 50 of the Freedom of
Information Act to ask the University to review it; however, you must do
so within 40 working days of the date of this response. Your request
should include our reference number and explain the reason for requesting
a review. Email [University of Liverpool request email] or write to the Freedom of Information
Reviewer, Legal & Compliance, University of Liverpool, Foundation
Building, 765 Brownlow Hill, Liverpool L69 7ZX.  We will respond to your
request for an internal review within 20 working days of receipt.

Following an internal review, if you remain dissatisfied with the handling
of your request, you have a right to appeal to the Information
Commissioner at The Information Commissioner’s Office, Wycliffe House,
Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire SK9 5AF. Telephone:  0303 123 1113
