Dear Magdalene College, Cambridge,
Please may I request the BMAT scores (Section 1, 2 and 3) of the overseas offer holders for the A100 Medicine Course for the past 5 years.
By offer holders, I mean applicants who have received either a conditional or an unconditional offer for entry during the admissions cycles for the past 5 years.
Thank you for your enquiry regarding the BMAT scores of overseas offer
holders to study Medicine A100 at Magdalene College, which we have treated
as a request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the Act).
We are unable to provide the information broken into separate years as the
very small numbers of offer holders involved would lead to the disclosure
of the personal data of individuals: this information is therefore
withheld under section 40(2) Data Protection of the Act. Instead we have
given the information aggregated over the five years that you have
enquired about, giving mean and range values for each of the three scores.
There were a total of seven overseas offer holders over the five years.
Section 1 – mean 6.2, range 4.4-7.8
Section 2 – mean 6.2, range 4.3-7.5
Section 3 – mean 3.8, range 3.0-4.5
Please note that we have interpreted “overseas offer holders” as being
those whose residency is not in the UK, and so this number may include
some educated in the UK.
I hope you find this information helpful. The College’s complaints
procedure provides for an internal review of the decisions regarding this
response if you are dissatisfied with it. You should let me know if you
wish to use it, letting me know your reasons for dissatisfaction and any
other matters to which the College should have regard. The review will be
conducted by another officer of the College, who will notify you of its
You have a right to apply to the Information Commissioner for a decision
whether, in any specified respect, your request to the College for
information has been dealt with in accordance with the requirements of the
Freedom of Information Act. Details may be found on the Information
Commissioner’s website atwww.ico.gov.uk.
