Dear Nicola,
Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002
Our Ref: 46-22
I refer to your enquiry dated 6 February 2022 asking to be supplied with the following
information in relation to our A100 Medicine degree programme for years 2019 to 2022 under
the provisions of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 (“the FOISA”):
• Lowest non-contextual UCAT score for Scottish fee status students for each route
(Scottish, RUK and No Preference) being invited to interview and if possible, a table of
each student’s UCAT scores and also the same info for those who were given an offer.
• The lowest contextual UCAT score for Scottish fee status for each route (Scottish, RUK,
No Preference) being invited to interview and if possible, a table of each student’s UCAT
scores and also the same for those who were given an offer.

Request for clarification
For each element of your information request you state:
“And if possible, a table of each student’s UCAT scores and also the same info for those
who were given an offer.”
There was uncertainty on how to interpret this. Was this simply a reference to the format in
which you would like the data presented i.e. as in the tables above? Or alternatively, were
you also looking to be supplied with a list of the UCAT scores for each non-contextual
Scottish fee status student for each route (Scottish, RUK and No Preference) that were
invited to interview and given an offer; and the same information for contextual Scottish fee
status applicants?
This request for additional information is made under section 1(3) of the FOISA. On receipt of
the clarification requested, you will receive a response within 20-working days from that date.
I await hearing from you and in the meantime this part of your enquiry will be held pending.
Advice and Assistance.
To manage your expectations, a request for UCAT scores of each individual applicant is
unlikely to be successful. When a person applies for a place to study Medicine here at the
University of St Andrews, this is a private matter; applicants have no reasonable expectation
that specific details from their personal application will be placed into the public domain.
As an alternative, in addition to the minimum UCAT scores provided as part of this response,
we could look to supply the:
• highest UCAT scores; and
• number of contextual/non-contextual applications per route.
Your right to seek a review of how your information request was managed
If you are not satisfied with the University’s response and/or our reasoning set-out above, you
have the right to request a review of our decision. The timelines in which this right is available
are set out in section 20(5)(a) and (b) FOISA. In broad terms the right to seek a review must
be exercised within 40 working days of receiving this response.
The/
The Information Assurance and Governance team are currently working remotely due to the
Coronavirus pandemic. Any request for review at this time should be sent by email to
foi@st-
andrews.ac.uk stating:
a) your name and address;
b) details of your original request; and
c) the reasons why you are dissatisfied with our response.
If you remain dissatisfied with how your request for information has been dealt with following
Review, you also have the right to apply to the Scottish Information Commissioner (SIC) for a
decision. In the event of an appeal to the SIC, the Commissioner will generally only be able
to investigate the matters raised in the request for review.
Details on how to make an appeal online to the SIC can be found on their website:

sioner.aspx .
This concludes the University’s response.
Yours sincerely
