Medicine A100

The request was refused by University of Manchester.

Dear University of Manchester,

I am aware for applicants who do not meet the threshold UKCAT score, 500-600 applicants are invited for interview on the basis of a holistic assessment.
For these applicants for 2018 entry, please can you provide for me their GCSE grades and A-Level predictions, as well as the extra qualifications such as AS levels/EPQ if they have taken one.

Also, how is the non-academic scored during this holistic approach?

Yours faithfully,

Eyad Jamileh

Dear Eyad

I am writing in response to your request under the Freedom of Information
Act 2000, whereby you requested –

‘I am aware for applicants who do not meet the threshold UKCAT score,

assessment.

For these applicants for 2018 entry, please can you provide for me their

Refusal Notice

This Refusal Notice has been issued under Section 17 of the Freedom of
Information Act (FOIA) in respect of your request for information under
Section 1 (1) of the FOIA.  The University of Manchester confirms that the
information requested may be held but we are refusing to provide it in
response to your request for the reasons set out below.

Reason for our refusal

The information requested may be held but it is estimated that for staff
to look into providing this data would exceed 18 hours of work. Under
Section 12 of the FOIA we are not obliged to comply with the request if
the cost of compliance exceeds the appropriate limit, i.e., £450 or 18
hours labour at £25 per hour.  We have estimated that complying with your
request would exceed the appropriate limit.

We do not transcribe qualification information from UCAS forms and the
data is not put on our central student record system.  To generate a
response to this we would have to go through each individual paper record
to locate the predicted A-level results.  As the number of applications
used in the ‘holistic application’ process is up to 600 students, the
forms for these individuals would have to be located from the potential
1600 applications for shortlisted students and then the A-level
predictions extracted: it has been estimated that it would take over 18
hours of work to collate this data. The University therefore believes that
the data is exempt under Section 12 of the FOIA.

However, In order to progress to the shortlisting stage, all applicants
must meet our minimum AAA standard at A-level and have 5 or more GCSEs at
grade A or A*. Further information is available here:
[1]https://www.bmh.manchester.ac.uk/study/u...

I can also confirm that we do not ‘score’ the holistic applications.  They
must meet the shortlisting criteria and then each applicant is considered
on a case by case basis.
