Medicine A100 1st year failure rate
Dear Imperial College London,
I am writing regarding the failure rates of students in the first year of the A100 MBBS course. Please provide data for the last 4 years (i.e. for years 2018-2019, 2019-2020, 2020-2021, 2021-2022)
1) In the first year of the course, how many students were required to resit any exam?
2) In the first year of the course, how many students were asked to withdraw as a result of failing both the first exam and the subsequent resit?
3) How many students were able to resit the year due to mitigating circumstances
4) What was the total intake of students in the first year?
Yours faithfully,
Mr Singh
Dear Graham Singh,

Dear Graham Singh,
Thank you for your Freedom of Information Act request.
Please see the College’s FOI Disclosure log (https://www.imperial.ac.uk/admin-service...) for the response to your first question, under the heading “The number of first year medical students required to re-sit exams, 2018/19 to 2021/22”.
The answer to your second question can also be found in the Disclosure Log under the heading "Student academic withdrawals from Medicine 2015/16 - 2021/22".
The College does not hold figures centrally on the number of re-sits that were permitted due to mitigating circumstances.
Imperial College has compiled an information sheet which addresses the most frequently asked questions we receive under FOI regarding admissions to Medicine (A100), including number of applications, offers and places confirmed. Please see the Freedom of Information FAQs on the Introducing our Imperial College London Medicine degree web page (https://www.imperial.ac.uk/media/imperia...).
Yours,
Freedom of Information Team
