Dear Mr Iqbal

FOI-2020-02-06-01

Further to your request for information please find below a copy of the response from UCAS in regard to the specific information you have requested. Please note that UCAS only holds data on courses that successfully accepted applicants through clearing, not on courses that had spaces but did not accept anyone, if applicable.

UCAS publishes application and acceptance data on its website in the End of Cycle data resources. You can find the one most relevant to you here: https://www.ucas.com/file/292071/downloa.... It covers 2007 to 2019 and shows acceptances via clearing for all courses under the detailed subject group A1: Pre-Clinical Medicine. Main Scheme Clearing refers to an applicant who has applied before the 30th June deadline and subsequently found a place through Clearing. Direct to Clearing refers to an applicant who has applied through Clearing after the 30th June, without an initial application through the main scheme. Clearing is available from July to mid-October.

You can purchase a further breakdown of this data through our EXACT service.

Disclosure controls are applied to the data to reduce the risk of disclosing personal data about identifiable individuals. For counts, the controls include reporting each cell count to the nearest five. In particular cell counts of 1 and 2 are reported as 0. Rows that only report 0 are omitted from the output. These controls are applied to each cell independently so this may result in instances where totals do not equal the sum of the components. For derived statistics (e.g. means), to ensure these disclosure controls are not undone, a minor adjustment is applied, if necessary, such that the set of records contributing to each cell matches the reported cell count (to the nearest five). This involves either removing 1 or 2 records at random, or adding in 1 or 2 duplicates at random. If the number of values contributing to a cell is 1, 2 or 0 then it is displayed as 'N'. Rows that only report 'N' are omitted from the output.

EXACT is a charged service and is supplied with terms and conditions that define the extent to which the results can be reproduced in publications. Further details on the service can be found via: https://www.ucas.com/corporate/data-and-....

A more general link to our published statistics and reporting which may be of interest to your enquiries can be found here: https://www.ucas.com/undergraduate-stati.... You may also find HESA’s website useful here: https://www.hesa.ac.uk/data-and-analysis....

In terms of the data available upon payment (through the EXACT service), as this information is accessible by other means, it is exempt from disclosure under Section 21 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

If you are not satisfied with the way in which we have responded to your request you may:

1) Contact us requesting that this matter is reviewed internally by UCAS. Your request will then be subject to our internal review process.
2) If you remain dissatisfied with the outcome of your internal review, you can contact the Information Commissioner's Office. The Information Commissioner can be contacted at: The Information Commissioner's Office,
